Training Attention Improves The Intelligence And Functioning Of Children's Brains

A new study shows that children who follow a program of attention training through a digital platform improve their intelligence score and the functioning of their brain.

Being able to manage care is crucial for the intelligence and learning of children. Therefore, a group of researchers from the University of Granada has carried out a study to train the attention of children of 5 years and measure its effect on the intelligence and functioning of the brain.

Specifically, the study shows that children who follow a program of training for attention through a digital platform improve their score in intelligence and the functioning of their brain. In addition, the work shows that the beneficial effects of brain training and intelligence are greater when an educator helps the child to understand his training process.

The training program consists of exercises based on the type of activities that cause the functioning of the parts of the brain responsible for the management of the attention. These are activities that are carried out on the computer or tablet, and which require focusing attention and responding attentively to situations in which the dominant responses are not correct. Other exercises require keeping the instructions in memory and adapting to changing rules.

"The results of this research suggest that it is important to educate attention from early childhood," explains the lead author of this work, the researcher of the Experimental Psychology Department of the UGR María Rosario Rueda Cuerva. "Through the education of attention can improve the intelligence of children and prepare them better for formal learning in school."
